Overwatch 2 is bringing back 6v6 Competitive Play in a mini-season starting mid-Season 15 in February 2025. Game director Aaron Keller revealed that the previous 6v6 Role Queue test was highly successful, accounting for 10% of all play hours.

While 6v6 won't replace the core 5v5 format, its popularity suggests it will remain in some form. Meanwhile, the Clash game mode is being removed from Competitive Play due to player confusion about objective locations, though it will remain available in Quick Play.

Key updates for 2025 include:

  • Jade weapon skins will be vaulted with new competitive rewards coming
  • 2024's hero additions (Venture, Juno, and Hazard) successfully added vertical gameplay elements
  • Competitive Play improvements made the game more approachable for new players
  • Major gameplay changes will be revealed at the Overwatch 2 Spotlight showcase on February 12

The development team continues to focus on making heroes more engaging and unique, with significant PvP gameplay changes planned for the upcoming year. These changes will build upon 2024's updates, which included rebalanced health pools, modified projectile sizes, and reworked passive abilities.
