FromSoftware is considering adding two-player support to Elden Ring Nightreign after launch, addressing what director Junya Ishizaki calls an "overlooked" feature during development.

The game was specifically designed and balanced for three-player squads, though solo play remains an option. Ishizaki apologized to players hoping to play as duos, explaining that while creating both three-player and solo experiences was prioritized, the two-player mode was unintentionally neglected during development.

"We set out to make this a multiplayer co-op game for three players, balanced for three players, so that was the main focus," Ishizaki told IGN. The absence of two-player support was previously described as "a game balancing decision, rather than a game design decision."

Given FromSoftware's history of post-launch balance updates, players can expect potential scaling adjustments to accommodate both two and three-player teams in future updates.

Elden Ring Nightreign launches May 30 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
