DreamLeague Season 8 Major Omits Dedicated South America and CIS Qualifiers
Packed arena at esports event
DreamLeague Season 8, the final Valve Major of 2017, has announced its qualification structure with some notable changes to the regional format. The tournament will conclude at DreamHack Winter in Jönköping, Sweden in December.
The qualification system features four regional divisions:
- Combined North/South American qualifier
- Combined European/CIS qualifier
- Chinese qualifier
- Southeast Asian qualifier
Eight teams will qualify in total:
- 6 teams from Americas and European/CIS qualifiers
- 1 team from China
- 1 team from Southeast Asia
This structure has sparked controversy as it doesn't align with Valve's requirement for majors to include qualifiers from all six primary regions (NA, SA, SEA, CN, EU, and CIS). The combined qualifiers mean South American and CIS teams might potentially be absent from the tournament, despite Valve's previous efforts to support these regions through separate qualifiers at The International 7.
The DreamLeague Season 8 finals will run from December 1-4.
