The game, which has been out of print since 1993, was the first officially licensed DC Comics TTRPG and featured contributions from industry legends like Jack Kirby and Alan Moore. It introduced three revolutionary gaming mechanics that influenced the tabletop gaming industry: attribute points, subplots, and exploding dice.

The revival project features carefully restored reprints of original texts, developed in collaboration with Ray Winninger, the original DC Heroes co-designer and former executive producer of Dungeons & Dragons. The Kickstarter campaign runs through December 18, offering two comprehensive box sets starting at $60, with shipping scheduled for October 2025. Each set includes supplemental materials and collector items such as superhero-inspired dice, dice trays, and custom bookmarks.
